Red sand
Rauðasandur is one of Iceland´s most spectacular sites due to its red sand made of crushed scallop shells that have accumulated over the centuries. Seals are often seen on the beach and if you´re lucky, you may even see them sunning with their offspring. If the weather and visibility are good you will be able to see all the way to Snæfellsnes peninsula and Snæfellsjökull glacier.
Forbidden romance
Our professional local guide will lead the way through a breathtaking landscape and tell local stories, such that of the forbidden romance between an adulterous couple at the farm Sjöundaá in the beginning of the 18th century. Their notorious romance has been a subject of literature and theatre for decades.
We will end our tour at the French Cafe where you can enjoy the beautiful view and unique tranquility of Rauðasandur.
